Misplaced Bride

A Multimedia Installation by Sonia Domkarova & Anna Salmeron

East Boston, April 2010—From May 8 to May 29, 2010, Atlantic Works Gallery presents MISPLACED BRIDE: A multimedia installation by Sonia Domkarova and Anna Salmeron, with supporting work by Samantha Marder, Roy Cohen, Isavel Ironbear, and Paul Weiner.

June is the month for weddings, which makes May the month to think long and hard about the fantasies behind weddings and the realities behind marriage. With characteristic humor and irreverence, artists Domkarova and Salmeron ask the burning question: what happens when a storybook bride escapes from the fairy tale of the perfect wedding to navigate a distinctly modern universe? All dressed up with no place to go but a hazardous waste site, chauffeured not in a limousine but in a shopping cart by her homeless groom, the misplaced bride is an angel of fabulousness in an unfabulous world.

Join us at the opening multimedia reception Saturday, May 8th from 6- 9PM for champagne, wedding cake, and a fabulous chocolate fountain.

To schedule a private press viewing and interview at a more convenient time, please contact Anna Salmeron, 617.913.1871.

Begun in 2003, ATLANTIC WORKS GALLERY, “East Boston’s Collaborative Space for Art and Ideas,” is a member-operated gallery located on the top floor of 80 Border Street on the waterfront of East Boston. It is T-accessible (near the Maverick T stop on the Blue Line) and parking space is usually ample.

About the artists:
Sonia Domkarova was dropped off in the center of Europe by her home people in 1983 as part of a project to gather info on the earth residents, and has been working to learn the customs of this inferior but intriguing species since then. She came to Boston in 2003, and as part of her research has been exploring the earthlings' mating habits and rituals.

Anna Salmeron ran away and joined the artists at a young age to escape the expectations of her political family. In her youth she tried briefly to save the world and married two lovers to keep them away from the border police. Currently she lives in sin with an unstable Czech painter and a small wolf pack, and enjoys pretending that the outside world does not exist
