Kasia Bytnerowicz: Portraits

East Boston, date - From April 8 to 24, Atlantic Works Gallery presents “Portraits”, a solo exhibition by Kasia Bytnerowicz.

Bytnerowicz turns to portraiture to establish human connection and continuity between past, present and future. “In painting a portrait,” says Bytnerowicz, “I work from life or I work from photographs I take of the model. It's a collaborative process and the model has a lot of input. Painting allows me to get beneath the surface and really connect with the person at the core. With a painting, especially an oil painting, you're forced to take the time to go deep.”

“Portraiture,” says Bytnerowicz, “has been a traditional subject for painters. My goal is to learn the technique, improve upon it, and pass it to future generations. So many things nowadays are impermanent and disposable. What is appealing about portraiture is leaving something of yourself that will live longer than you, a document of our time.”

Kasia Bytnerowicz is a graduate of Williams College in Williamstown, Mass., where she won the Peyser Prize in Painting. Her work has been exhibited in numerous shows, including at the 2008 Biennial of Contemporary American Realism at the Fort Wayne Museum of Art. That year she also won the Best in Show prize at the Cambridge Art Assocation's Northeast Prize Show. For the past two years she has focused her efforts on portraiture. She studied with noted portrait artists Tom Ouellette in Boston and Marvin Mattelson in New York. For more information, please visit finebrushstrokes.com.
