East Boston, December, 2009—From December 3 to December 26, 2009, Atlantic Works Gallery presents “YOU’RE WELCOME” new work created by gallery artist Carmen Sasso.
Most people dream at night—some remember their dreams during their waking hours and a few of us have even clamed to receive messages and glean wisdom from dreams. Carmen Sasso not only dreams vividly but also has managed to harvest his nocturnal memories thus creating a visually vibrant series of works in his upcoming show.
The artist believes that even his introduction to the gallery and his current studio was foretold in a dream. According to Sasso, in his dream he walks by a studio art building, approaches a secured window and looking inside observes a sparse grey room with one easel facing a single chair. Because the building is private with a locked entry he breaks the window and crawls in to “steal a moment.” Sitting in the chair gazing at the easel and while holding a paint brush the artist’s clothes turn to colorful paint-spattered denim and at this moment in the dream he “experiences pure comfort and ease.” Sasso says a month later he found studio space in the Atlantic Works building and began the series of sculptural paintings that will be on exhibit.
Other work featured in the exhibit includes a painting inspired by “Without Malice”-- a poem that the artist wrote after dreaming about a silver wolf. Included also are an engaging series of bell-shaped paintings that have evolved from dream images of the Buddha who appeared in the shape of a bell.
The public is invited to attend the OPENING RECEPTION on Thursday, December 3 from 6 to 9pm and to visit the gallery during the following hours: Fridays 2 – 6pm and Saturdays 2 – 6pm. The public is also invited to attend the Atlantic Works Gallery’s monthly THIRD THURSDAY SHINDIG on Thursday, December 17 from 6 to 9pm.
