Make Lemonade

80 Border Street East Boston
September 7-29, 2007

East Boston, August 1, 2007 - From September 7-29, 2007, Atlantic Works Gallery presents Make Lemonade, the adaptations and discoveries of silversmith Jaye Woodstock and painter Laura Baltzell during the year-long loss of their studio spaces and equipment.

During the closure of the Atlantic Works studios, Baltzell was forced to abandon her body-scale canvases and to take on the challenge of eliciting power in painting on a more intimate scale. She also began to experiment with collage and with new colors discovered while exploring the hill towns of Franklin County.

Always profoundly inspired by nature, Woodstock continues to be a magpie in her collecting of curious shapes, textures, and colors along Boston's North Shore beaches. In the past year, with little access to her tools, she has adapted by taking her treasures into new media including photography and more three-dimensional work.

Make Lemonade is a demonstration - in sculpture, collage, paint, jewelry, and photography - of the paradox that creative growth can be born of limitation.

Begun in 2003, Atlantic Works Gallery, "East Boston's Collaborative Space for Art and Ideas," is a member-operated gallery located on the top floor of 80 Border Street on the waterfront of East Boston. It is T-accessible (near the Maverick T stop on the Blue Line,) and parking space is usually ample. For detailed directions and other information about members and past and future shows, please see atlanticworks.org.
