Memory, like photography, is never unbiased or entirely truthful. I am interested in this idea as it relates to a nostalgic longing for a time when nature was an inescapable and integral part of daily life. I use photography in place of memory and subtly play with reality. Using my camera to substantiate my claims, I construct the past that I desire which is far removed from my suburban childhood.

I began taking these pictures while working on a small farm in Vermont and have continued this theme in relation to my new surroundings. Through the use of color and light I attempt to transform my present environment into a dream-like, magical world. This world is filled with moments between nature and human beings that are both idealistic and unsettling. Each picture is an independent narrative, but placed together they tell strange stories of youth and innocence overcome by a quiet sadness.
